  • Suspended Monroe City Schools Superintendent Kathleen Harris' tenure appears near an end.
The News-Star reports (http://tnsne.ws/Oj6su4 ) members of the Monroe City School Board voted Monday to set an Aug. 28 hearing in which they are expected to fire Harris, although Board president Verbon Muhammad made it clear he hopes a settlement can be reached before then.
The board voted 5-2 to accept and approve nine charges against Harris compiled the board's attorney.
Charges against Harris range from improperly managing personnel to failure to apply for a $3 million School Improvement Grant to mismanaging the budget to failure to communicate effectively with the board.
The board voted early this year not to renew Harris' contract. Her contract expires on Dec. 31.
