Football is just a few short days away.

Louisiana High School Athletic Association member schools will be allowed to practice in full pads starting Monday, Aug. 6.

Bastrop will travel to Alexandria Senior High for a preseason scrimmage on Friday, Aug. 17, at 6 p.m.

BAYOU JAMB: Three reigning state champions will be in action at the Bayou Jamb on Saturday, Aug. 25, at ULM's Malone Stadium.

Pairings include Sterlington vs. West Ouachita at 2 p.m., Oak Grove vs. Ouachita Christian at 4, Bastrop vs. Ouachita at 6 and Neville vs. West Monroe at 8.

West Monroe (Class 5A), Neville (4A) and OCS (1A) all hoisted state championship trophies last December.

PVA REPORTS: Prairie View's first official day of practice is scheduled for Monday, July 30.

The Spartans will host a jamboree on Friday, Aug. 10, though the schedule hasn't been finalized.

PVA SOFTBALL: Prairie View held its first softball practice Monday afternoon.
The Lady Spartans open the season vs. River Oaks on Friday, July 27, at 5:30 p.m. in the Riverfield Tournament.

DELTA FOOTBALL: Summer football practice for students entering grades 5-8 at Delta Junior High will start on Monday, July 23, at 9 a.m. Practices will be held Monday-Friday from 9-11 a.m. at the Mustang Corral.

OFFERS: Bastrop wide receiver Jay Wilson has received scholarship offers from Northern Colorado, McNeese State and Central Arkansas.

GOING CAMPING: Former Bastrop Rams Marshay Green and Rueben Randle will report early next week with the Arizona Cardinals and New York Giants, respectively, as NFL preseason camps officially get under way.

ROGERS LOCHE received his master's degree in clinical psychology with a concentration in substance abuse from Northwestern State University in May.

While pursuing his masters, the former Bastrop High and Northwestern linebacker served as a graduate assistant for the Demons.

Loche has accepted an offer to work in the Oklahoma State University psychology department, starting in the fall semester. He has also applied for graduate school at several universities, including Oklahoma State, and plans to pursue his Ph.D.

DEVIN RICHARDS is transferring from Louisiana College to Bossier Parish Community College.
A 2010 Bastrop High graduate, Richards spent the past two seasons as a linebacker, seeing significant action for the Wildcats late last season.

Richards is making the move to pursue a degree in physical therapy. LC does not a full course load in the field.

While the change in schools signifies the end of his football career (BPCC doesn't have a football team), Richards is devoting more time to stock car racing. He can be found every Saturday night at USA Speedway in Sterlington.

TRACK SIGNEE: Bastrop High sprinter Keenan Williams has signed a letter-of-intent to run track for Colby (Kansas) Community College.

Williams placed fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 21.52 in the State Meet and helped the Rams to third-place finishes in the 4 x 200m and 4 x 400m relays.

CCC placed 10 in the National Junior College Athletic Association Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Levelland, Texas in May.

JOSH MORRISON is the new head baseball coach at Ouachita.

Morrison spent last season as an assistant at Bastrop and two years as an assistant at Prairie View.

A former Prairie View and ULM catcher, Morrison played professional for the Laredo (Texas) Broncos of the United League and the Redlands Baseball Club of the Australian Baseball League.
