Residents of Morehouse Parish will have the opportunity to address representatives and a senator with questions they may need answered during the Annual Legislative Luncheon on July 19.
The Bastrop-Morehouse Chamber of Commerce is hosting the event at the Bastrop Visitors Center to honor Sen. Mike Walsworth, Rep. Bubba Chaney, Rep. Katrina Jackson and Rep. Jay Morris, all of whom represent Morehouse Parish.
Sen. Mike Walsworth said he will speak on the issues of education, the budget and possibly even healthcare.
He said his driving force has always been education and he will be prepared to answer questions that area residents may have.
“Trying to give every student a chance to succeed has been my guiding influence,” Walsworth said. “And there are a lot of questions concerning education; I would much rather answer questions people have than give a speech.”
Chamber director Dorothy Ford said the luncheon has been an annual event for the past four years.
“This will give the public the chance to get an update and more information about bills passed in the last legislative session,” Ford said. “I think this year's [luncheon] will be one of the more popular because [recent education reform legislation] has been such a hot topic for everyone.”
The luncheon will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Bastrop Visitor's Center on July 19. Tickets are $10 for Chamber members and $12 for non-Chamber members. The deadline for purchasing tickets is 9 a.m. July 16.
