  • Guest speaker at New Hope Baptist Church, McGinty Road, Jones at 5:45 p.m., July 29 will be V (as in Victorious) Jeffers, author of the children's Christian book "I'll Fly Away" (Psalm 90:10).

The idea for her book evolved. There is a monarch butterfly named Meri Monarcha and a very unhappy caterpillar named Wormy Willy. It turns out Meri Monarcha used to be Wormy Willene. When Wormy Willy learned all about God, he too turned into a beautiful monarch butterfly and was given the name Michael Monarcha.

The book, "I'll Fly Away," a children's Christian book, takes young readers on an adventure with Meri Monarcha and her little friend Willy. "However, it also tells a beautiful story about the changes and joy that come into a person's life when they accept, simply put, that there is more to life than being a worm and feeling sorry for itself," Jeffers said. "Children read that even caterpillars are made by God and for God, and that God loves everybody and everything," adding "Read with your heart. God speaks to your heart."

Because the book is written so simply even the youngest child can understand the inspiring message telling what God can do in their lives.

"There is the promise that when our life is over here on earth and God is ready to meet us face to face, we will fly away," said Jeffers.

Jeffers is a Wilmot, Ark. native, now making her home in Portland with her husband Carl and have served as Sunday school teachers for 15 years and are active members of Meridian Baptist Church, Crossett.

Jeffers enjoys Scripture memorizing, walking, and running, bicycling and reading. She said, "During these activities, I especially love my quiet, one-on-one time with God."

"I'll Fly Away" was conceived after Jeffers and her husband viewed the migration of over 200,000 monarchs passing through Arkansas on their annual winter migration.

Stephanie McDaniel, daughter of the pastor where the Jeffers attend church, illustrates the children's book. "I'll Fly Away" is McDaniel's debut as an illustrator.

Published by Wahoo Publishing LLC, more than 118,000 books are currently in print. "I'll Fly Away" books have already gone to 30 foreign mission groups. Under Operation Christmas Child, the Franklin Graham Ministry (son of Billy Graham), will place books in Christmas gift-filled shoeboxes and send worldwide.

The goal at Wahoo is to publish books and resources to promote Christian service, discipleship, missions and evangelism. When ordered in bulk, "I'll Fly Away" can be purchased for $1 per book. Visit Wahoo Publishing Inc at www.wahoopublishing.com.

"We are in the process of creating a coloring book to be released next year," said Jeffers. “Operation Christmas Child (OCC), a non-profit operating on donations, is very excited about the coloring book, saying the sky would be the limit... that could mean millions of coloring books.”
