American Bikers Active Towards Education (A.B.A.T.E.) Morehouse Parish chapter is hosting its first  fun run and horseshoe tournament July 28 at Skeeter’s social lounge.
Kim Dean, A.B.A.T.E. Morehouse Parish Chapter secretary, said the event will be tons of fun with games, a pool tournament and a live band, just to name a few things.
“The band is called Insane Cajuns Unleashed and they are awesome,” she said. “They start playing at 1 p.m. when the games begin. They play a lot of old rock.”
The event begins at 1 p.m. and costs $5.  Bikers are encouraged to arrive at 11 a.m. and go on a bike ride.
“A.B.A.T.E.  is a non-profit organization that raises money for biker rights and road freedoms for everyone,” she said. “There is barely a weekend open for a bike ride because we are always the first to jump in and try to raise money to help people.”
Dean observed that too often bikers receive an unfavorable stigma or perception.
    She said it is inaccurate.
“People look at you differently because you ride a bike,” she said. “They look at you funny as you ride down the road, but what they don’t know is that you are riding to raise money for the family of their neighbor that got killed in a car wreck.”
Dean said you do not have to have a motorcycle to become a member, and even children can join.
