Levi Humphrey went 3-for-3 with two RBIs as Bastrop erased an early 3-0 deficit en route to a 13-3 victory over visiting Sterlington on Monday night. This marked the end of summer league play for both clubs.
Trailing 3-0, the Barons drew even in the home half of the third.
Humphrey clubbed a leadoff double to left-center and held at third on Gavin Pollock's base hit up the middle. Pollock then swiped second and Humphrey scored as the short-hopped throw caromed into center field.
With one down, Khalil Key dropped a hit into shallow left field and slid head first into second base with an RBI double. One out later, Kyron Ricks drove in the equalizer with a triple to the right-center gap.
Bastrop (15-6) broke the game open with nine earned runs on six hits in the fourth.
Seven straight batters reached safely with one out. Chase Cockrell started the outburst with an infield single and crossed home with the go-ahead run on Humphrey's double to right-center. After Pollock walked, Ty Cantrell crashed an RBI double. Key was then hit by a pitch, setting up Cade Cantrell's two-run double to deep left. Ricks followed with a walk to load the bases.
Hunter Cockrell then hit into a fielder's choice, forcing Ricks at second for out number two. Taking off at the crack of the bat, a hustling Cade Cantrell slid in ahead of the throw to the plate, scoring all the way from second base.
Another walk to Kyle Perkins left runners at first and second, before Chase Cockrell smashed a standup triple to right-center, bringing the score to 12-3.
Clay Winnon's RBI single in the bottom of the fifth put the run-rule into effect.
Sterlington jumped out to a 2-0 lead out of the chute.
Austin Mills led off the game with a base hit to left, stole second and third and completed the circuit on
Tyler Buffington's one-out RBI double to right-center. Cleanup batter Austin Haman then delivered a run-scoring single up the middle.
Casey Sutton's RBI single upped the Panthers' lead to 3-0 in the second.
Ricks threw two scoreless innings to notch the win in relief of Perkins.
Seven of Bastrop's 11 hits went for extra bases. Humphrey led the way with two doubles and a single, Chase Cockrell tripled and singled, Ricks tripled, Ty Cantrell, Key and Cade Cantrell doubled and Pollock and Winnon singled.
Buffington doubled for the Panthers and Mills, Haman, Elliott Courson, Kyle Vandergraucht, Devin Murphy, Luke Temple, Trenton Hightower, Cody Lawson and Sutton singled.
Ross Lambert, the second of three Sterlington pitchers, was charged with the loss.
