The Bastrop-Morehouse Chamber of Commerce is hosting their Annual Legislative Luncheon on July 19 to honor Senator Mike Walsworth, Representative Bubba Chaney, Representative Katrina Jackson and Representative Jay Morris, who each represent Morehouse Parish.
“This is sure to be an informative luncheon as our representatives and senator each give us an update on the events and that took place in Baton Rouge during this past legislative session, said Chamber executive director Dorothy Ford. “I imagine the education reform bill that was passed into law will be the main topic of discussion”.
Sen. Mike Walsworth serves District 33 which represents Ouachita, Morehouse, West Carroll, Union and Claiborne Parishes. Walsworth was first elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives in 1995 and reelected in 1999 and 2003. He currently serves in the Louisiana State Senate after being elected in 2007 and reelected in 2011. Walsworth serves as the Chairman of the Environmental Quality Committee and the Vice-Chairman of the Senate & Governmental Affairs Committee. He also serves on the Education Committee, the Joint Legislative Budget Committee, Homeland Security Committee and the Legislative Audit Advisory Council.
District 19, which covers parts of East Carroll, Madison, Morehouse, Ouachita, Richland and West Carroll, is represented by Rep. Charles “Bubba” Chaney. Rep. Chaney began serving in the House of Representatives in 2007 and was reelected in 2011.
The owner and manager of Albert’s Men’s Wear in Rayville, Rep. Chaney serves on the Agricultural, Forestry & Rural Development Committee, the Appropriations, Natural Resources & Environment Committee and the Joint Legislative Budget Committee.
Representative Jay Morris was elected to serve in 2011 and represents Morehouse and Ouachita parishes for District 14. A practicing attorney, Rep. Morris resides in Monroe. Currently he serves on the Commerce Committee, Health & Welfare Committee and the Judiciary Committee.
District 16 covers parts of Morehouse and Ouachita parish and is represented by Representative Katrina Jackson. A resident of Monroe, Rep. Jackson is a practicing attorney who was elected to serve in 2011. She currently serves on the Agriculture, Forestry & Rural Development Committee, the Health & Welfare Committee and the House Executive Committee.
The luncheon will be at the Visitor Center in Bastrop and will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Tickets for the luncheon are $10 each for Chamber members and $12 for non-Chamber members. The deadline for purchasing tickets is 9 a.m. July 16.
