Capping a 4-for-4 day at the plate, Bryce Wallace cracked a walkoff single in the bottom of the sixth inning, propelling Optimist to a 9-8 Dixie Youth Baseball verdict over Republic Finance.
With the score tied 8-8, Ethan White opened the Optimist sixth with a single and Kyler Carpenter followed with a double. One out later, Wallace slapped the game-winning single.
Trailing 7-3, Republic bounced back to take an 8-7 lead with five in the top of the fourth. Optimist drew even in
the home half of the fourth when Wallace doubled and scored on a wild pitch.
Wallace also picked up the win on the mound, striking out seven and walking three. Optimist starter Beau Cannon Pruitt fanned five without issuing a walk through three frames.
Wallace set the pace for the O's 14-hit assault with two doubles and two singles. White popped two doubles and a single, Carpenter clubbed a pair of doubles, Tripp Netherland pounded two singles, Beau Cannon Pruitt tripled,
Gage Riles doubled and Dorian Eddins and Zeb Morgan singled.
Cole Kinnaird bopped a double and single for the Dawgs, Brock Jenkins and Cooper Stephenson singled twice and Miller Stutts, Nathan Crawford, Riley Spillers and Terrion Morgan singled.
Kenton Norman, Republic's third pitcher, was dealt the loss on the mound.
