  • Dakota Mattice delivers walk-off hit for Optimist

  • Dakota Mattice came through with a two-out, RBI single in the bottom of the fifth and final inning, lifting Optimist to an 8-7 Dixie Youth Baseball victory over Rankin, Yeldell, Katz & Lowery.
    Beau Cannon Pruitt led off the Optimist fifth with a base hit and advanced a base on Gage Riles' groundout. One out later, Mattice drilled the game-winning base hit.
    With the score deadlocked at 1-1, the O's broke loose for six in the bottom of the third, keyed by Zeb Morgan's two-run double.
    RYK&L answered with a six-spot of its own in the top of the fourth, tying the game at 7. Home runs by J.T. Robinson and Kenyon Beasley fueled the outburst.
    Bryce Wallace worked 1 2/3 innings on the mound to pick up the win in relief of Pruitt.
    Hitting for the O's were Wallace and Pruitt with a double and a single, Mattice singled twice, Morgan tripled and Dorian Eddins, Gage Riles, Tripp Netherland and Ethan White singled.
    Beasley clouted a homer and a single for the Attorneys, Micah Young lined a pair of doubles, Robinson went deep, Braxton Fatheree tripled and Kaden Tharpe, J'marco Edmonds and Dylan Gandy singled.
