Michelle Hardin and Desiree McHenry placed runner-up in the shot put and the 200-meter dash to highlight the Bastrop Lady Rams' performance in the Class 4A State Track & Field Meet on Saturday afternoon at LSU's Bernie Moore Stadium.
Hardin missed the state title by only 2.50 inches with a throw of 37-03.50. Monique Blanchard won the event with a toss of 37-06.
McHenry was clocked at 24.84 in the 200.
Marcquita Stalbert of state champion New Orleans McDonogh #35 swept the sprints with readouts of 11.67 in the 100m and 23.96 in the 200m. McHenry added a fifth-place finish in the 100m with a time of 12.22.
Bastrop placed a respectable seventh overall with 25 points. McDonogh #35 edged out Lafayette Northside 61-59 for the team trophy. Plaquemine was third with 50 points, followed by Baton Rouge St. Michael the Archangel with 30 and Shreveport Northwood and Benton with 27 apiece.
Bastrop picked up its remaining points in the relay races.
Janey Smith, Rosa Bryant, McHenry and Jessica Gray took third in the 4 x 200m at 1:43.75. Stalbert, Kaitlynn Pratt, Nicole Henderson and Ariel Taylor of McDonogh #35 produced a winning readout of 1:38.89.
Smith, McHenry, Angel Nelson and Gray were sixth in the 4 x 100m (49.49). Plaquemine's unit of Marissa Batiste, Brittany Arnold, Myiesha Bell and Tori Williams were clocked with a winning result of 48.04.
Bryant, who began competing in the triple jump only a month ago, was measured at 34-03.25 for seventh place, only one position out of the scoring.
