Sarah Gandy and Cassidy Brady have been named as the co-Most Valuable Players of District 2-2A after spearheading Sterlington's drive to a 25-3 record and a Class 2A State Tournament appearance.
Gandy, the solo 2011 District MVP as a sophomore, compiled an 18-2 record and a 1.21 earned run average this season. She also hit .516 with five home runs from the leadoff spot. At her best in the playoffs, Gandy belted four home runs in three postseason games, including two against Oakdale.
Brady, the Lady Panthers' sophomore third baseman, led the team with a .595 batting average, while hitting an incredible .800 in conference play. The Lady Panthers' cleanup batter, Brady also led the team in RBIs (45) and was second on the club in home runs (6). A first-team All-District designated player last season, Brady moved into the defensive lineup as a third baseman this year.
Boyd Cole is the 2-2A Coach of the Year after guiding the Lady Panthers to a perfect 9-0 district record and their third State Tournament berth in four years.
In all, the Lady Panthers placed seven players on the first team and two on the second unit.
Senior Caitlin Dupree (.325) is the first-team catcher. Dupree broke into the starting lineup as a seventh grader and spent the past five seasons behind the plate.
Freshman Taylor Wilson is the first-team shortstop after batting .545 with a team-best eight home runs. She was also 7-1 as a pitcher.
Also representing Sterlington on the first team are senior first baseman Alaina Johnson, sophomore second baseman Alex McMorris, junior left fielder Mallory Forbes, freshman center fielder Avery Elkins and sophomore utility player Chelbi Johnson.
Dupree, Alaina Johnson, Wilson and McMorris join Gandy and Brady as repeat first-team selections.
Sterlington's second-team honorees include freshman infielder Hannah Harrell, sophomore outfielder Abi Taylor and sophomore utility player Amber Knight.
