A Morehouse Parish man is facing charges he mistreated a 13-year-old patient at an area psychiatric hospital.
An investigation by the Louisiana Department of Justice Medicaid Fraud Control Unit led to charges being filed Thursday against Michael Shannon Reynolds in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred in September 2009 at the Lillian Louise Behavioral Health Hospital in Bastrop.
Court records filed in connection with the case state that investigators came to the hospital last month to speak with Morgan Stephens, a Licensed Practical Nurse, who was the only eye witness to the alleged abuse.
The arrest affidavit states Stevens testified Reynolds was called to the room of the alleged victim because of a disturbance. Stephens told investigators Reynolds, seated in a chair behind the victim - who was also seated - allegedly held the victim's hands behind his back. Stephens testified Reynolds later had the victim stand in a corner and later placed the victim on the floor, allegedly placing his knee on the victim's back. The entire episode, Stephens said, lasted approximately 45 minutes.
Reynolds was charged with one count of cruelty to the infirm and released on a $25,000 bond. The case is being prosecuted by the Louisiana Office of the Attorney General. An initial court appearance is scheduled for April 13.
